University Scholarships


Merit-based Scholarship
This scholarship can be applied by students with superior academic performances who maintain national pride and uprightness, serve as a pattern for others and have a promising future. They are obliged to have completed a semester of studies and scored GPA of 3.6 and above for all semesters.Under this scholarship, the total amount of the tuition fee shall be waived, students who received other scholarships are not subject to this scholarship, and this shall be granted for one academic year.

Tuition & Fee Wavier Scholarship
This scholarship can be applied for financial aid with, GPA for the previous semester is 2.7 and above.Under this scholarship, tuition and entrance fees shall be waived among school fees for each semester

Work and Study Scholarship
This scholarship educationally aims at encouraging students to be involved in various business affairs and practices in school so that they receive a scholarship in exchange for their work and thus come to recognize the genuine meaning of work. Students who seek to work including those of poor households and students recommended by professors are categorized into scholarship recipients Type 1 and 2 as undergraduates who work.The working period is divided into two semesters: the first semester (for six months from March to August) and the second semester (for six months from September to February of the next year). Under Type 1, 200,000 won per month is granted for a 10-hour work, totaling 40 hours per month, while under Type 2, 300,000 won per month is granted for a 15-hour work, adding up to 60 hours a month. For scholarship students assisting the undergraduate program are granted with 400,000 won per month in exchange for a 20-hour work.

Overseas Students Scholarship
This scholarship can be applied for by foreign students and overseas Korean nationals categorized into state scholarship students and private expense students whose average GPA for the previous semester is 2.7 and above.Under this scholarship, the total amount of tuition fee is granted eight times in total for state scholarship students and a designated amount within the budgetary scope for private expense students.

Customized Scholarship for Overseas Students
This scholarship can be applied for by students of poor households, with uprightness and a promising future whose average GPA for the previous semester is 2.7 and above.Under this scholarship, the total or partial amount of Academic Membership Fee (AMF) out of tuition fee is granted for each semester.

SNU Development Fund Scholarship
This scholarship can be applied for by students of poor households, with uprightness and a promising future whose average GPA for the previous semester is 2.7 and above. Under this scholarship, the amount is to be granted within the budgetary scope for a one-year period, which can be extended by cannot exceed maximum eight times (12 times for those subject to a six-year undergraduate program and 10 times for majors of Architecture in the Department of Architecture).



External Scholarships


Overseas Koreans Foundation Scholarships
The Overseas Koreans Foundation sponsors foreign students to continue their studies at universities in Korea. About 45 recipients are selected, The scholarship covers the cost of airfare, living expenses, tuition fees, language training expenses and medical insurance. The scholarship is awarded up to 8 semesters or until the recipient successfully obtains their bachelor’s degree.

Hansae Scholarships
Hansae Corporation sponsors students from Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia and Thailand to study in Korea. Applicants are expected to show sufficient ability to use Korean.

Korea-Japan Cultural Association Scholarships
Japanese students receiving an education in Korea are eligible to get this scholarship. However, freshmen in the undergraduate program may not apply for this scholarship. The application period is during March each year, and the scholarship amount is 3,500,000 won per academic year. The scholarship term is for one academic year only, however scholarship recipients may re-apply in succeeding years for additional support.

Global-Harmony Scholarships for Undergraduate Students
This scholarship provides educational opportunities to foreign students from developing countries to study at SNU. International students who have been recognized for their potential to become the next generation’s global leaders are provided with scholarships and learning subsidies for undergraduate studies. Glo-Harmony Scholarship provides students with full tuition fees for a period of maximum 8 semesters and it includes partial living expenses and one-round air fare. Scholarships are revised and renewed every semester after careful assessment of students' grades, study ability, and improvements in Korean Language, as well as funds availability at the time of renewal. Since the activation of the program in spring semester 2008, ten students from developing countries are awarded for the Glo-harmony Scholarship at SNU. The scheme is jointly funded by the Samsung Equal Opportunity Scholarship Foundation and Seoul National University.SNU selects recipients among newly admitted undergraduate students who are citizens of OCED/DAC recipient countries. Those who want to receive this scholarship should apply for SNU international admissions as all other international applicants. It is strongly recommended to have Korean language proficiency.
