Internal Scholarships

Lecture & Reserch Support Scholarship
This scholarship can be applied for by students recommended by their professors (i.e. academic advisers)for having equipped with capacity and character to serve as researchers of the succeeding generation and whose average GPA is 3.3 and above for the previous semester.Under this scholarship, the total tuition fee is waived and 300,000 won is granted to doctorate degree students, the total tuition fee is waived and 200,000 won is granted to master's degree students. For research students, 900,000 won is granted to those in a doctorate degree program, and 500,000 won is granted to those in a master's degree program.

Tuition & Entrance Fee Wavier Scholarship
This scholarship can be applied for by students of poor households, with uprightness and a promising future whose average GPA for the previous semester is 3.3 and above.Under this scholarship, tuition and entrance fees shall be waived among school fees for each semester.

Work-Study Scholarship
This scholarship educationally aims at encouraging students to be involved in various business affairs and practices in school so that they come to recognize the genuine meaning of work. This scholarship can be applied for by students seeking to work including those of poor households and students recommended by professors.The working period is divided into two semesters: the first semester (for six months from March to August) and the second semester (for six months from September to February of the next year). Under this scholarship, students are granted 800,000 won in exchange for a 20-hour work.

Overseas Students Scholarship
This scholarship can be applied for by foreign students and overseas Korean nationals categorized into state scholarship students and private expense students whose average GPA for the previous semester is 3.0 and above.Under this scholarship, the total amount of tuition fee is granted four times in total for state scholarship students and a designated amount within the budgetary scope for private expense students.

SNU Development Fund Scholarship
This scholarship can be applied for by students of poor households, with uprightness and a promising future whose average GPA for the previous semester is 3.3 and above.Under this scholarship, the amount is to be granted within the budgetary scope for a one-year period, which can be extended by cannot exceed maximum four times.

Teaching Assistant (TA) Scholarship
This scholarship aims at extending research support to teaching assistants (TAs) who assist their professorson their lecturing. It is principally targeted at doctorate degree students but can be applied for by students in a master's program and research students in the graduate program. The research period is divided into two semesters: the first semester (for six months from March to August) and the second semester (for six months from September to February of the next year). There are two types A and B under this scholarship. In Type A, tuition fee is waived and a certain amount of monthly research grant is sponsored while in Type B, one half of monthly research grant is sponsored. The grant sponsoring period can be every month, semester or academic year.


External Scholarships

Overseas Koreans Foundation Scholarship
The Overseas Koreans Foundation sponsors foreign students to continue their studies at universities in Korea. About 45 recipients are selected, The scholarship covers the cost of airfare, living expenses, tuition fees, language training expenses and medical insurance. The scholarship is awarded up to 8 semesters or until the recipient successfully obtains their bachelor’s degree.

Silk-Road Scholarship
The Silk-Road Scholarship is to promote cultural exchanges in the 'Silk-Road' area by supporting graduate students from those countries. It provides selected students with tuitions and living expenses for two years. Students who are seeking master's or doctoral degrees in humanities, social sciences or cultural studies are eligible to apply. Applicants should be citizens of among of these countries: Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Nepal, Afghanistan, India, Bangladeshm, Pakistan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Yemen, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Ethiopia, Hungary, and Russia. The Silk-Road Scholarship is available only every fall semester and the maximum of 5 awards will be given. Korean Goverment Scholarship
The Ministry of Education offers a scholarship program for international students from countries that have concluded a bilateral cultural agreement with Korea. The applicant must be a citizen of a country to which the scholarship is offered. Graduate or research applicants must have, or must be expecting to receive, a Bachelor's Degree and Doctorate applicants must have, or must be expecting to receive, a Master's Degree, prior to August 31 in the year of application. Academic grades from the last educational institute attended must be within the top 20%, and applicants must possess a good command of Korean or English. The scholarship covers the cost of airfare, living expenses, tuition fees, a research allowance, language training expenses and medical insurance.The application procedure is as follows. First, Korean diplomatic or consular missions abroad make a preliminary selection of applicants based upon the recommendations of the government of the country to which the scholarship is allocated. Once the preliminary selection is made, the Korean mission abroad recommends the selected candidates to the National Institute for International Education Development (NIIED) via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Next, the scholarship review committee of the NIIED selects the finalists and notifies the Korean embassy via the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the selection of the candidates, and then, as the final step in the official procedure, the Korean embassy sends an award letter (confirmation of acceptance) to each recipient.
